Project description
Bryophytes are considered as a remarkable source of bioactive compounds. They have been used as a popular medicine and have a variety of medicinal properties. Different biological activities have been reported from bryophytes that demonstrate important commercial potential. The goal of my PhD project is to find relevant and valuable compounds from mosses with anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties or any other desired compound. I will investigate the phytochemical profile of different moss species and once relevant candidates are identified, metabolic engineering will be applied to enhance the production of the desirable target.
