In my research group, we work toward establishment of novel photosynthetic cell bioreactors for the production of valuable compounds, e.g. fragrances and drugs. We aim to use and develop novel synthetic biology tools to establish new photosynthetic eucaryotic cells to be used in commercial biotechnology.
My group also studies the compound group terpenoids, and this line of research include elucidation of biosynthetic pathways and bioengineering towards production.

Major topics include:
- Engineering of the moss Physcomitrella patens as a new efficient host for heterologous production of terpenoids to afford a novel bio-sustainable and robust supply of valuable terpenoids, e.g. thapsigargins and patchoulol.
- Engineering and biochemical studies of algae to enable novel biotechnological use of these green cells.
- Elucidation of terpenoid biosynthesis in Liverworts, using our in planta model P. patens.
- Discovery of novel bioactive terpenoids from different plant material, including seaweed and chicory.
We are currently involved in several projects including www.mosstech.eu, www.medplant.eu, www.drugtissuecult.eu and projects with several companies.
